Testing your Alarm System

Testing your alarm system is a two part process. We suggest testing your system once per month and additionally after severe weather, after having work done in your home, and after having changes made or work done on your phone lines.

To test the sensors on your alarm system:

  • Activate the Chime Mode on your system.
  • Open and securely close each window and door. The keypad will chime each time you open a window or door. Note: motion detectors may not chime, however the motion zone will show at fault when it detects someone.
  • If you have smoke and fire sensors connected to your alarm system, the alarm will test the fire zone periodically and you do not need to perform a separate test on these sensors.

To test your monitoring, siren and battery:

  • These test procedures will cause the siren to sound, be prepared to enter your code to silence the siren. If the communication with the monitoring station fails, the service light will illuminate on your keypad. The monitoring station does not respond to test signals.
  • At the keypad, type in *44#
  • If the service light on your keypad illuminates, please check the service menu to determine the specific cause of the service condition.
  • If your siren fails to sound, please contact our office for a service appointment.
  • The monitoring station will contact you if your back-up battery is low.

If any of these test procedures fail, please contact our office at 901-377-4991. Your system may require servicing.

Keypad Panic Buttons

Depress the appropriate panic button for a period of 2 seconds to send a signal to the monitoring station. Sirens will sound for the police and fire panic buttons. The medical panic button sends a silent signal. In all instances, the monitoring station will call the premise and your secondary verification number before dispatching the authorities.

Activate or Deactivate the Chime Mode

In Chime Mode the keypad will chime if the system is disarmed and a sensor is violated. The Chime function is active if the Chime light is illuminated. Press the Chime button to toggle the Chime function on and off.

Bypassing a Zone

Note: disarming your system will erase your bypasses and you will have to bypass the zone again when you arm your system again

  • Press the Bypass button
  • Enter the zone number of the zone you wish to bypass
  • Press the Bypass button twice to exit the bypass mode

Resetting your Fire Zone

Please Note: If you have a false alarm on your Fire Zone, you should check for a solid LED light on each Smoke Detector in your home, indicating which Smoke Detector caused the false alarm. If the cause of the alarm is obvious, such as cooking smoke, you must wait until the cause has been removed before resetting the Fire Zone, otherwise another alarm will occur.

  • Press *7 on your keypad.
  • Check the LED on the Smoke Detector again. If the Smoke Detector successfully resets, the LED light will start blinking. If the LED light does not start blinking, then the Smoke Detector has shut down and a service call is required.

Power and Back-up Battery Status:

  • Power Light on Solid - this indicates the alarm system is receiving electricity.
  • Power Light Off - the alarm system is not receiving electricity, but the back-up battery is not yet low. You should check your electrical breakers and ensure the alarm system transformer is plugged into the electrical outlet securely.
  • Power Light is Blinking - this indicates your alarm system back-up battery is low. Check to make sure the alarm system has electricity, if not, restore electrical power to the alarm system and your back-up battery may be able to recharge. If the alarm system has electricity and is still indicating a low battery, then you need to replace the back-up battery. Contact our office at 901-377-4991 to order a back-up battery.

Keypad Continually Beeping:

Your keypad will continually beep to make you aware of a power problem, a trouble condition with your fire zone, or other service conditions. Enter your code to stop the continual beeping, then check the lights on your keypad.
  • The Power Light indicates if a power problem exists. If you are unable to resolve the power problem or fire trouble condition, please contact our office at 901-377-4991.
  • The Service Light will illuminate if a service condition exists.
